Spelling forms a vital component of the writing curriculum at Wimborne Primary School, supporting children's fluency and confidence in written communication. In Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1), pupils engage in regular reading and writing practice to reinforce their understanding of phonics and word construction. The support provided by families at home during this stage is invaluable and greatly enhances children's progress.
As pupils move into Key Stage 2 (KS2), they continue to develop their spelling skills through our tailored 'Superhero Spelling' programme. This scheme provides weekly word lists matched to each child’s ability level, ensuring appropriate challenge and progression. 'Superhero Spelling' builds on the foundations laid by the 'Monster Phonics' programme used in EYFS and KS1, creating a consistent and structured approach to spelling across the school.
